Case Study For Mesothelioma Attorney Georgia

Put All Of Your Questioning Arrows In The Quiver

The Ominous Hour

“It was a sunny afternoon and I (Deborah Collins, 49 years, resident of Atlanta, Georgia) can still remember the hour and the date to this day. That ominous hour and date would change the rest of the course of my life. My life would never the same again. Clichéd lines that I used to read about others but now something similar and clichéd had happened to me.

Misdiagnosed

I was diagnosed with pericardial mesothelioma, an unusual form of cancerous condition that directly affects the pericardium or the thin covering of the heart. This was after several misdiagnoses that ranged from asthma to heart disease to acidity to heartburn to a wild imagination! By the time I was correctly diagnosed, my pericardial mesothelioma had become a painful irreversible condition. I however did go for a second opinion as my earlier experiences with the doctors wizened me to understand that doctors are human and are prone to mistakes.

Casting a glance

In retrospect when I look back, I think I should have asked some pertinent questions about the doctor’s expertise and looked for some signs that would have given me a very good idea about what I was going to encounter.

Signs to look out

Now that I look back I should have observed if they have fully heard my side of the story. Whether they displayed any kind of concern to my persistent condition, should also have been noticed by me. Also I could have noticed whether the doctors let me ask them questions and did not get upset if I asked them too many of them. Did he/she explain to me the difficult medical terms that were thrown at me? I could have researched on their reputation as a person and as a practitioner. Moreover since I often complained of chest pains, they could have recommended me a heart specialist or a hospital that catered to different kinds of health issues.

Researching mesotheliomic surgery

When it came time for me to be operated to remove cancerous parts from my body I did find out the qualifications and certifications of the surgeon. I also researched the number of mesotheliomic surgeries done by my surgeon and what has been the success rate of his surgeries. I asked the surgeon to explain to me the entire surgical procedure, if there were any risk factors involved and what would be the post operative surgical side-effects.

In control

I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant when I started my questioning process but I felt much better and in control over my condition. I realized that the empathetic doctors understood my situation and did their best to allay my fears and make me feel as comfortable as possible.”
